Protocannon: High Explosives, Armor Piercing & Shields
Protocannon uses Bioplasm for high-explosive, armor-piercing projectiles. Read shield destruction, acceleration and blast-radius upgrades with barrier clues.
FAQ
Which resource does Protocannon use?
What do the game files confirm?
The inventory combines three properties: High Explosive projectile, Armor-Piercing Damage and shield destruction. The pickup entry supplies the resource statement, Uses Bioplasm. These records complement each other rather than describing separate skills.
The Armored Barrier scan identifies High Explosive Energy as a weakness. That wording aligns more specifically with Protocannon than a generic explosion animation would. It is still a source match, not evidence that every armored boss or barrier shares one interaction.
| Mechanic | Documented behavior |
|---|---|
| Projectile | High Explosive |
| Damage / interaction | Armor-piercing and shield destruction |
| Resource | Uses Bioplasm, per pickup text |
| Upgrades | Acceleration; explosion radius and damage |
Which upgrade directions are listed?
- Increase the projectile acceleration
- Increase the explosion radius and damage
Menu directions name what changes, not numeric ranks, prices or a tested optimal order.
How can you apply these clues?
-
Before testing a barrier, scan it and check that its wording matches the high-explosive clue. Keep Pulse Energy and Hyper-Energy requirements distinct.
-
Observe the projectile’s travel when comparing acceleration upgrades. Acceleration is a change in projectile motion, not a stated increase in the character’s movement speed.
-
Record Bioplasm before and after a controlled use in your current build. The file establishes the resource used, but does not give the amount at every upgrade rank.
How does it compare with related mechanics?
Nova has explicit manual mid-air detonation; that behavior must not be copied onto Protocannon without evidence. Hyper Rush instead matches the Hyper-Energy description of a different barrier.
How does it differ from Protopulse?
| Inventory effect | Protocannon | Protopulse |
|---|---|---|
| Main output | High explosive projectile | Concussive wave dealing pulse damage |
| Armor piercing | Explicitly named | Not stated in this entry |
| Enemy shield destruction | Explicitly named | Explicitly named |
| Enemy projectile destruction | Not stated in this entry | Explicitly named |
| Mid-air jump extension | Not stated in this entry | Explicitly named |
“Not stated” means the entry does not establish an effect, rather than a gameplay test ruling it out. Read the Protopulse reference when the immediate problem is incoming projectiles or a jump.
How is the Barrage upgrade used?
Barrage upgrade and input sequence — ability spoiler
The Protocannon Barrage inventory record describes an upgrade with this sequence:
- Hold fire to prepare a charged blast.
- Hold the Secondary Skill action to switch to Barrage.
- Release fire to execute the barrage.
Use your current bindings. The record does not supply projectile count, charge duration, resource cost or an acquisition room. Owning the base skill does not prove this separate upgrade is available.
Acquisition and verification limits
The descriptions do not provide exact cost, splash radius, projectile lifetime, damage multiplier or a verified unlock coordinate. Armor-piercing is not a blanket guarantee against every scan-described defense.
The expandable records below preserve the original game wording and source keys. A bundled record is not proof that the item or encounter is available in the Demo.
